Super Dimension Fortress Macross Summary

Rawr, it's a monster!

Well, the screenshot pretty much sums this series up…

Ok, just kidding but that is an actual screenshot from the series, no editing at all XD  I suppose the fact that Macross is 25 years old has something to do with the sometimes curious animation quality.  So why, you ask, would I be watching such an old series? Continue reading

Hayate no Gotoku! Summary

This show is labeled as a “Love comedy” with a ridiculous premise of a high school boy, Hayate, whose parents rack up 150,000,000 yen of debt and then desert their son, leaving him to fend off the “とても親切な人たち” (Very Nice People) debt collectors… i.e. the yakuza trying to harvest and sell his organs.  While running away, he meets a hot headed little rich girl, Nagi Sanzenin, alone in a park.  While scheming a plan to kidnap and ransom her, he witnesses real kidnappers trying to capture Nagi and can’t resist chasing them off.  Nagi, unware of Hayate’s plans, thanks him for saving her.  As repayment, Hayate tells Nagi he wants her to “Go with him” and he “wants” her (for ransom). Comiket 74 Loot Arrives

I came home today to find 2 packages of C74 goods awaiting me.  That was a nice little gift from the postal service.  Just kidding, the limited number of goods you see in these images cost a small fortune and I know others that bought much more than I did.  Such is life when you have to import your hobby from another country…

Anyway, I am giving a brief preview of the goodies in from the Summer Comiket event.  I likely be revisiting the items in greater detail.  I just want to give a quick glimpse of what ~30,000 yen went to…

Items by the following circles and artists: RAMI, WNB, FancyFantasia, Dmyo, Closet Child, Electromagnetic Wave, Frill*Frill, and Tinkle.

That Dmyotic 2.0 book on the far left was not from C74, it just happened to arrive in the bunch ^^;

I’m actually waiting on a couple more items but this is the bulk of what I scored from C74.  Look forward to a more in depth look into each in the future :D

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Summary

Over the holiday weekend I had free time so I watched Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.  When the series first aired in 2006, I watched episode 1 with a friend but I didn’t continue with it.  I’d seen so many images and references to it, I decided to give it another try.  Well, I think ‘wtf’ sums this series up pretty well.  Apparently, this anime is based on some doujin mystery games and the anime attempts to mix together various arcs which may make following the series somewhat difficult. Though not all of the arcs are directly connected, they all take place in the same location with mostly the same characters.  They are related enough that each can give more insight into the characters and each individual story.

Over the course of this 26 episode series, the various stories are told through different chapters and parts which are broken into arcs.  The arcs are told from various perspectives starting with question arcs which introduce the story but leave many questions unanswered.  Later in the series (and in between other arcs) an answer arc for that chapter is shown which tells the same story from another perspective and answers some of the questions about the mystery.  Sound confusing?  It is a bit, but not enough to get completely lost.  Of all the arcs, I think that the most interesting one is the Shion-Mion arc but I won’t spoil it by giving away specific details.

I will say that this series can be quite violent at times and people do die (it’s a mystery story, afer all).  The final arc, Rena’s story, I thought was kinda weak and ended the series on a less appealing note.  That’s not to say the series is bad, but far from perfect.  In the end, if you like murder mysteries you’ll probably like this series.  I liked it for the most part and will probanly watch the anime sequel, Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai.

Final verdict: If you like murder, mystery, and lots of girls (killing people), you will probably like this series.

Scenes like this are not so uncommon in Higurashi

Miscellaneous Doujinshi Stash

I’ve got a stockpile of doujinshi that I need to post about. Unfortunately, I just haven’t gotten around to it (I get distracted and it’s not a high priority). Since comiket74 just finished up and I’ve got another group of doujinshi heading my way, I figured now would be a good time to clear up the queue a bit.

I’m starting with three doujinshi from varying sources and release dates. I plan on doing some artist focused reviews in the near future expect some POP, WNB, and Dmyo reviews soon :-) As usual, I have scanned sample images from each release. Continue reading
