Ohayocon Meet

Had the opportunity to meet with some fellow DD owners earlier this week at the Ohayocon convention in Columbus, Ohio (Ohayocon, get it? ^^;).

ohayocon-1

We mainly went for the meet.  In fact, only one person in our party actually purchased a convention badge since we arrived a bit late and the con itself was nearly over ^^; Continue reading

Anime Central 2010 + BJD Meetup

Spent the past weekend in Chicago attending Anime Central 2010 and catching up with some college friends.  It was a lot of fun.  I took my camera and most of my lenses and managed to snap a few hundred photos of lots of cute cosplayers among other things ^^;  Also brought my Yui Dollfie Dream and met up with Wolfenreich who brought his Asuka DD.

Anyway, here are a few of the photos:

Wonder Festival Summer Highlights

There’s certainly no short supply of coverage for the Summer Wonder Festival that just finished up.  Wcloudxkumo has a nice summary of the new and upcoming figures that were on the display.  Tons of awesome new figures on the horizon ^^.

Here are some of the figures I found most interesting:

K-ON Nendoroids by GSC

k002

We all knew this was coming ^^.  K-ON! was absurdly popular and the inevitable Nendoroids of the four girls were displayed.  They’re not jump-off-the-screen cute but they all look good, a very likely get for me.  There are also pics that Mio is sporting her shima pantsu ^^;  I believe reservations for Mio and Yui will begin in a few days.

Nendoroid Minami Chiaki from Minami-ke by Gift

Chiaki

Finally, some Minami-ke Nendoroids!  Chiaki looks pretty cute here in her mostly expressionless face ;)  I hope the other Minami-ke characters are forthcoming in their own Nendoroid forms.   Scheduled for December release.

1/8 scale Black Rock Shooter with Black Blade by GSC

brs

A new Black Rock Shooter figure by GSC.  I didn’t reserve the first BRS figure that’s due out in August and I’m not sure if I regret that or not.  This is mostly the same figure but with her sword instead of her Rock Cannon.  Also, her jacket is off.  It’s pretty hot ^^;  Since I didn’t order the first version, I just might be tempted into getting this one.   No price or release date (that I was able to find).

1/8 scale K-ON figures by Alter

alter k-on

Now here’s some good stuff ^^.  1/8 scale K-ON! figures by Alter.  Given the popularity of the K-ON! series there is no doubt we will be seeing many figures of the girls but to have Alter start things off is a good sign.  Mio and Yui are first up and look energetic and cute in their school uniforms and with their instruments (which look amazing).  Quite tempting.  Both are supposed to be released near the end of the year but no prices have been announced.

1/8 scale Mercedes from Odin Sphere by Alter!

mercedes

I’ve been watching this figure for a while.  The previous unpainted photos I had seen were promising and now the painted PVC version is arriving.  The Alter Gwendolyn that matches with this figure is absolutely stunning and I expect this figure to be the same.  Due out by end of year, no price yet.

1/8 scale Aisaka Taiga from Toradora! by Wave

taiga

Yes, yes, and yes ^^;  Here is Aisaka Taiga in 1/8 scale by Wave.  After watching Toradora, I’ve fallen in love with Taiga so I’m very interested in this figure.  She is wearing her angel outfit from the school festival.  Just based on the unpainted concept model, I like it.  If the final, painted version turns out anywhere near as good as I expect, this will be a must get figure for me.  No date or price yet.

1/6 scale Saber Maid Ver. from Fate/Stay Night by Alter

saber

Another maid version of Saber by Alter.  I’ve been eyeing Alter’s first version for a while but it seems to be sold out everywhere… so this figure might be the one for me.  Unfortunately, it looks like it will be a Hobby Japan magazine exclusive which means it may be horribly expensive for me to acquire :(

Lucky Star Summer Seifuku versions

kagami

tsukasa

konata

The last items of interest to me are the Lucky Star summer seifuku figma by Max Factory.  I already have the winter seifuku versions but I like the summer versions more (maybe it’s the blue ^^).  More pics at Moeya.  Konata is supposed to come with a head for Yutaka so you kind of get a free Figma with her ;)

And that’s it!  Whether or not I will be getting these figures is not yet decided but I should probably start saving up in any case ^^;

Comiket 74 Loot Arrives

I came home today to find 2 packages of C74 goods awaiting me.  That was a nice little gift from the postal service.  Just kidding, the limited number of goods you see in these images cost a small fortune and I know others that bought much more than I did.  Such is life when you have to import your hobby from another country…

Anyway, I am giving a brief preview of the goodies in from the Summer Comiket event.  I likely be revisiting the items in greater detail.  I just want to give a quick glimpse of what ~30,000 yen went to…

Items by the following circles and artists: RAMI, WNB, FancyFantasia, Dmyo, Closet Child, Electromagnetic Wave, Frill*Frill, and Tinkle.

That Dmyotic 2.0 book on the far left was not from C74, it just happened to arrive in the bunch ^^;

I’m actually waiting on a couple more items but this is the bulk of what I scored from C74.  Look forward to a more in depth look into each in the future :D

Otakon 2008

I just returned from Otakon 2008 in Baltimore, Maryland over the weekend. It was a good showing this year, with a record number of 26,000+ attendees at the Baltimore Convention Center. Considering I live in Indiana, it was quite a drive to Maryland. Luckily, I know some old college pals who live in the Baltimore area and we were able to stay at their house. In fact, the purpose of the trip was as much to see old friends as it was to go to the convention ^^; Continue reading

ACEN 2008 coming up!

If you live in the midwest region of the US and are a fan of anime and manga, you’ve probably heard of Anime Central or ACEN. It’s the largest “Japanese culture” convention in the area and presents all kinds of fun things to keep an otaku entertained. There is, of course, nonstop anime playing with various genres to choose from, panels with topics ranging from Jpop, to Japanese clothing, games, and others. Then there’s all the kawaii cosplayers, just hope that man Faye doesn’t show up! And, my favorite part, the dealer’s room! This is where you can pick up all of Japanese anime/manga/game merchanse, both common and rare. I like to look for new artbooks while I’m here, but you can also find figurines, doujinshi, imported games, and lots more. I can’t wait ^_^

ACEN this year (as with previous years) is being held in May 16-18 in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare & the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center near O’Hare International. If you are planning to attend ACEN this year, drop a comment. I hope to see some kawaii-radio and shuushuu folks at the convention.
