Wave’s Taiga Preording + Some Chiaki

Wave’s 1/8 scale Aisaka Taiga figure is now open for reservation!

This is the figure I’ve been watching for some time now, starting with the unpainted prototype shown at Wonder Festival. I have to say Taiga looks quite cute from these images but I’m weary of the swappable faces it features. All the figures with swappable faces that I’ve seen tend to have more noticeable seams on their heads.

Still, I like the figure. The laughing face, smiling face, and sad faces all look good though I personally prefer to keep my Taigas happy ^^. Quite likely I will be getting her. She is available for reservation at Hobby Search for 7,125 yen and will be released in December.

Touhou Reimu Nendoroid Preview

Hey look, pics of the upcoming Reimu Nendoroid ^^. No word on price yet but apparently she is still going to be a C76 exclusive. Ah well, considering the huge amount of Touhou doujinshi merchandise that is released exclusively at Comiket, I suppose it makes sense for a Nendoroid as well ;)

I believe Tokyohunter is going to be taking orders for her once the price is announced. Alternatively, C76 starts on August 14th this year so if you want to get her yourself, start checking Yahoo Japan Auctions around that date ;) Pic from Mika-tan’s blog.

Konata Nendoroid, Comptiq Version

Just a quick look at one of my not so recent Nendoroid acquisitions. Yep, another Konata ^^; This one is special though. It’s the Comptiq version which was a Comptiq magazine exclusive and thus getting a hold of one is more difficult. They pop up on Ebay every now and then but are always posted at insane prices so I went to Yahoo! Japan Auctions and got one there for a pretty reasonable price ^^.

As with the Comptiq versions of Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki, Konata comes with accessories for her animal persona. Konata’s animal is, of course, a cat :) She comes with cat ears and a little tail.

Tried a new lighting set up here. Seems to works quite well ^_^

Konata comes with 3 faces, 3 skirts, 4 arms, standing and sitting legs, and a chair.Oh, also an unpainted Akira puchi Nendoroid but I already had the painted version of her from the season 1 petite Nendoroid set.

And finally, the entire Comptiq set together at last…

This brings my Lucky Star Nendoroid totals to 4 Kagamis, 3 Konatas, 2 Tsukasas, and 2 Miyukis. And, believe it or not, there’s still a Konata and Kagami that I am missing ^^; Not sure if I will ever acquire those…

If you’re interested in getting this Nendoroid, it is number 27a. Just be careful, there are lots of fake 27a Nendoroids on Ebay. Those that are real and from legitimite sellers are often way overpriced. You might be able to do what I did and get her cheaper on Yahoo! Japan Auctions even after deputy service fees.

Nagi-sama Nendoroid

Yep, another Nendoroid acquisition :) I had forgotten I used Hobby Search to order my Kannagi Nagi-sama Nendoroid which means it was shipped with EMS and arrived sooner than I expected. Not that that is a bad thing, of course!

This is one of the cutest Nendoroids I’ve owned yet. Nagi’s hair takes up a huge portion of her head but seriously contributes to her super kawaii appearance. Some people buy Nendoroids for their (limited) pose-ability but I get them for their ridiculously cute proportions. I actually tend to find the pose + accessory combination that appeals to me most and then leave my Nendoroid as such for display on my shelves or desk if I really like them ^^

The accessories that come with the Nagi Nendoroid are:

The stand for this Nendoroid is a bit different than my previous ones. It has a small joint in the plastic support piece that allows you to tilt the Nendoroid forward and back. It’s not much but it does give you a bit more freedom and allows you to tilt the Nendoroid up if she was facing down too much or vice versa. Helped some when taking pictures ^^.

I really like this Nendoroid. It’s quite well constructed and really captures the appeal of Nagi’s character. There are no distracting paint problems and all the pieces fit quite well. It seems as the Nendoroid version number increases (Nagi is #64), the better the build quality becomes. Both Nagi and my last Nendoroid, Kagamiku, are excellent quality. I hope to see GSC continue this upward trend in quality.

If you were a fan of the Kannagi anime or manga, you should pick this Nendoroid up. You won’t regret it once you see how cute she is ^^ There is also a Zange-chan Nendoroid that will be released next month (July). I did not pre-order her but I may still pick her up… ;) Although Zange-chan is nice, Nagi is still my favorite and this Nendoroid is definitely going on my desk for display. HLJ, Hobby Search, and other online stores still have her in stock so order yours today :)

Mikkumiku Kagami Nendoroid

Returned home today to find a few boxes awaiting me. Upon opening the smaller one, I found this Kagami peering back at me. A Miku cosplaying Kagami, that is ^^.

This super cute Nendoroid is based on the Lucky Star OVA which was released last Spring. In the OVA, Konata arrives in mage cosplay and uses magic to force Kagami to cosplay as well. After going through several outfits, all of which Kagami rejects, Konata’s wand breaks and Kagami is stuck in Miku cosplay!

Too bad Kagami doesn’t accept it. She’s a bit embarrassed at first >_<

Konata even granted her a leek to complete the Miku cosplay ^_~. This Nendoroid also comes with little plastic stickers such as the above sweatdrop. First I’ve seen of this type of accessory with a Nendoroid. A nice touch for full moe customization ^^ In all, the set comes with 3 faces, 5 arms, 3 legs (2 normal, 1 bent at knee), and 2 leeks. Oh, and a stand, of course.

The sweatdrop actually looks pretty good in place. There are also heart, stars, and some “cross popping veins” stickers. I only used the sweatdrop in these photos.

Finally, Kagami gives in to the moe moe cosplay fun :D Hurrah for dual wielding leeks! Was kind of difficult to pose here with the bent leg place ^^;

A great Nendoroid overall. Unlike some of my other Nendoroids, this one is quite well built and does not fall apart easily. All the pieces fit securely in place which made taking pictures a bit easier. The stand is the usual Nendoroid stand which only really works in the most basic poses but that I can live with. If you’re a Kagami or Lucky Star fan, this would be a great Nendoroid to pick up :)

Kagami & Konata Chara-Ani Nendoroid

Just a quick look at some Nendoroids that I recently received. These are the Chara-Ani versions of Kagami and Konata from Lucky Star. These were limited edition Nendoroids and are somewhat difficult to find these days (and expensive). They both feature food items as their special accessories. Kagami has her delicious Pocky (Pochi here) and Konata has her choco cornet ^^

Each Nendoroid comes with 3 swappable faces, several arms, a chair, and stands. Like just about all the other Nendoroids I have, they have a tendency to fall apart easily, usually at the legs >_<

I think I have too many Nendoroids now. At least Lucky Star Nendoroids ^^;

Tsukasa & Miyuki Nendoroids, Comptiq Ver.

Lookie, Tsukasa and Miyuki Nendoroids! These are the Comptiq versions which were released earlier this month. The Comptiq versions were only available by order through the Comptiq magazine so I had to go through a third party to get these pre-ordered last fall. Got a pretty good deal on them too since I did order them so early. They can still be found on YJA and Ebay just for an extra premium.

Like the previously released Konata and Kagami Comptiq Nendoroids, Tsukasa and Miyuki come with their “animal mode” accessories which are only available in the Comptiq versions. Tsukasa has her inu mimi and Miyuki with gyuu (cow) mimi. Oh, and the tails :)

More Lucky Star Nendoroids fall from the sky

Ok, they didn’t actually fall from the sky but that would be a nice change of weather ^^; In fact, I’ve had these nendoroids for a couple months; I just haven’t gotten around to taking photos of them until now. And the reason for that is that I have a new camera :) Yep, I’m the proud owner of a Canon 40D. This is my first DSLR (that I didn’t borrow) so I’m still learning how to apply the various features of this powerful camera.

Unfortunately, the following photos reveal my inexperience as I took them the day I received the camera >_< Ah, well.. I’ve actually learned quite a bit in the few days since then so hopefully my next photos will look better. If anyone has expereience taking good photos of figures, I’d be interested in additional advice. Hit the jump for the photos.

These are from the Lucky Star Petit (Puchi) Season 1 set. They’re kind of like normal Nendoroids except they’re much smaller. Surprisingly, they’re still configurable and posable with removable arms and faces. Also, they’re pretty good quality for their small size. I guess you could say they’re super cute, miniaturized versions of their larger Nendoroid siblings.

The four girls in their alternate outfites. Cheerleader uniform for Miyuki, summer seifuku for Tsukasa, Kagami in her miko hanabi/kimono, and Konota in her classic school mizugi.

Well, this shot didn’t come out too well, but as you can see, it’s the two versions of Akira and Minoru Shiraishi. Shiraishi is the only guy in the set, but I guess you can’t expect much else from Lucky Star ;)

And now for some full-sized Nendoroids! These two are Fate cosplay set which features Konata as Saber and Kagami as Rin. Good quality figures here. I think Nendoroids have been gradually increasing in build quality since their inception. At least that’s what I’ve seen with the few I own. This set isn’t exactly new but it’s newer than my Comptiq Kagami and better quality. My Ink-tan Nendoroid is my newest and the best quality, I think.

Kagami Nendoroid (Comptiq)

Since I purchased my first Nendoroid last month (Ink-tan), I’ve given in to my evil, moe desires and present to you my latest catch: Lucky Star’s Kagami Hiiragi in Comptiq form!

And when I say catch, I mean it. This thing was pretty hard to get a hold of, at least at a decent price. Kagami and Konata Nendoroids came in three different flavors each: HP version, Chara-ani, and Comptiq. I would probably rank them in that order for rarity as well. They are also all out of print now. The Comptiq versions were mail-order only through the Comptiq magazine so they are particularly hard to find.

I scoured ebay and yahoo auctions for the past month looking for a good deal on this Nendoroid and finally stumbled across one. While it wasn’t as expensive as most of the other auctions, it still was a bit expensive ^^; Good thing it was new in-the-box and not second hand :D

As for the figure itself, it comes with a lot of accessories. In the box, you will find: 3 unique faces, 3 skirts (that all look the same), 1 set of Rabbit ears, a rabbit tail, 1 set of normal ribbons, 2 sets of legs (one for sitting, 1 for standing), 2 sets of hands, a stand, and a mini Minoru Shiraishi figure. The Minoru Shiraishi figure is the same one in the Lucky Star petit Nendoroid set, except it is unpainted (expect a post with info on this later ;)).

While I love this Nendoroid, the paint quality was a bit disappointing in several locations. Kagami’s legs have smudges of red and brown paint on them. Not visible at a distant but obvious up close. Also, her white Seifuku had smudges of red on a few spots. Her hair, while having a very nice paint job on the front and top, unfortunately had some white specks on one of her twin tails :( I have to say the build quality of this Nendoroid does not match that of my newer Ink-tan. Perhaps in the time between the manufacturing of Kagami and Ink-tan, Good Smile improved their quality. Also, the included stands don’t work very well and leave Kagami with the tendency to topple over if you’re not careful. Perhaps I should get a set of paints and attempt to touch up paint blemishes like this in the future?

While the build quality is a bit sketchy at points, I still love this figure. The super-cute blushing face + usa mimi are perfect. Sure, I may be biased due to my Kagami obsession, but I think most people will agree ^_^

Kagami Figma + Ink-tan Nendoroid

Yay, new figures have arrived :D This time I have received the most recent addition to the Lucky Star figma collection, Kagami Hiiragi! Also, I have with me a super moe Ink-tan Nendoroid from the English study aids + anime series Moe-tan. Who knows, maybe collecting figures isn’t so bad after all? ^_^ Hit the jump for more details and pictures.

The Ink-tan is the first Nendoroid (ねんどろいど） figure that I’ve owned and I have to say it’s really cute. The super deformed dimensions of the characters just ooze moe :D. I haven’t actually watched the Moetan anime and I don’t really plan to ^^; I just like the character designs and art related to the series which is done by one of my favorite artists, POP. As for the figure itself, it’s surprisingly high quality for the size. Not quite perfect as there a small mispainted spot of one of her twin tails. Thankfully, it’s not visible from the front. Aside from that, there are no big imperfections. Ink comes with three different facial expressions, two sets of legs, two sets of arms, and a few swappable hands. Also included in the set is a chair which she can sit on (without falling over).

As for, Kagami… she needs no lengthy introduction. She is Kagamin and that’s all that needs said ^^ I already have the Tsukasa and Konata figma so I’m more familiar with what to expect here. She came in pretty good condition, no major paint defects. I do like how flexible her twin tails turned out to be. It allows for more possibilities when posing ^^ Kagami comes with a Comptiq magazine prop which is where the Lucky Star manga was serielized. She comes with a super happy face and a more relaxed one ;)

She won't admit it, but Kagami is a closet Otaku
