In order to get these very limited cheerleader outfits, owners of all four of the original 1/4 scale LS girls had to send in their proofs of purchase to FREEing and they would send you the outfits for free ^^.  Quite a nice way to reward customers who bought all of the figures.  Unfortunately, this offer was only available for folks with a Japanese address so I wasn’t eligible myself.

I really didn’t want to miss out on these cute cheerleader outfits so I asked around for folks in Japan who would be willing to mail in the offer for me and found a kind soul who was willing to do it ^^.  Selidor from over at figure.fm was in Japan at the time and let me mail the proofs of purchase to her and several months later the outfits were mailed to her.  She then mailed them to me in the US.  All worked out nicely.  Thanks again, Selidor! ^^

As for the outfits themselves, they may look familiar if you’ve seen the anime series.  These are the outfits featured in the opening sequence and at the end of the anime ^^.

They’re pretty simple but quite cute, don’t you agree? :3

Sure, they were expensive and their 1/4 scale size takes up lots of display space, they’ve turned out to be well worth it.  FREEing definitely knows how to keep a customer interested.  These cheerleader outfits brings the total to four unique outfits for each of the characters.  And these ones were free from FREEing (though I had to pay a bit to get them all the way to the USA ^^;).  So, yeah, quite satisfied as a Lucky Star fan and I plan to acquire at least a few of the new 1/4 Lucky Star figures that FREEing has lined up.  More on that in a few months ;)

Yutaka is from one of the younger classes, maybe that’s why she gets bloomers?  She’s super cute!  I think we’ll be seeing more of the other girls coming in the future too.  Good Smile says this “The Lucky Star gym uniform series from FREEing is set to continue, this time bringing all the characters in the other classes to join their older friends!”.  Even more of the other girls to follow? :D

Yutaka will be released in October and will retail for 14,095 yen.  A bit pricey, but she is 1/4 scale.   She is available for pre-order at Amiami for 11,250 yen and Hobby Search for 11,981 yen (plus 599 points!) so you won’t have to pay the full retail price :)

Anyone going to be getting her?  I am very tempted by her moe-ness!  I already have the original 4 figures by FREEing and I’m compelled to get all the girls in the set.  Very possible get for me!

I say persisted because while I definitely wanted them, they were a difficult purchase.  Not only were they dreadfully expensive at 4,000 yen per girl (4,000×4), they were exclusive items and had to be purchased through a deputy service (thanks Goody Japan!).  So, yeah, quite costly in the end ^^;

But look!  It was worth it :).  Lucky Star girls in sailor uniforms.  Very, very cute!

Each set of clothes came with both the school uniform as well as a miko outfit.  Yuki was once again difficult to dress >_<

The miko outfits are more complex than the sailor uniforms and took like 40 minutes to get all the girls properly dressed ^^;

Let’s start with Tsukasa Hiiragi, shall we?  She’s Kagami’s silly yet bubbly happy “younger” sister.  She’s not really a younger sister since they’re twins, but Kagami was born first.  I wonder if that’s tough as a twin; to be the younger one of the two xD

Like the rest of the FREEing figures in this set, Tsukasa comes dressed in her school gym uniform.  She is a member of class 3-B along with Konata and Miyuki.  Poor Kagami is stuck over in 3-C >_<.  I bet she wishes she was in 3-B with Konata ^^;

Tsukasa is pretty cute, right? ^^  FREEing decided to go with a happy, super enthusiastic pose for Tsukasa.  Clenching her fists in front of her chest with a huge smile on her face, I can almost her hear saying, “頑張って！” (ganbatte!).  Perhaps she is rooting for Konata?  あ、さすがこなちゃんすごいねー.

Like Kona-chan and her sister before her, Tsukasa is inherently cast off-able.  Well, since her clothes are actual fabric and be exchanged, it’s kind of necessary ^^;  Anyway, it wouldn’t be a complete review without some clothes-less pics, right? ;)

!!  Shimapan!  And pink ones at that.  But let’s not focus on such uncouth things ^^;

Ok, fine, just one more pic!  Even I have to admit, Tsukasa has a nice body xD.  Ok, really, no more of this.  You can put your clothes back on, Tsukasa ^^;

眼鏡子！(meganeko).  Yep, it’s everyone’s favorite bespectacled moe-girl, Miyuki Takara ^^.

もえもえドジっ娘？(moe moe dojikko?)  Well, this dojikko is also conveniently the most well endowed among the Lucky Star girls.  A dangerous combination, I think ^^;

Miss Takara from class 3-B also happens to be a know-it-all ^^;  If sexy moe + clumsy is a dangerous combination, then sexy moe + clumsy + genius is a downright lethal combination xD

Painted fingernails.  A nice detail and one that is present for all four of the girls.

The glasses FREEing included for Miyuki are made of plastic, but they don’t look bad.  I would have preferred them to at least have rims though.

A complete look at Miyuki.  FREEing chose to go with a pose that, well, accentuates Miyuki’s formidable figure ^^;  As if captured in a photograph, Miyuki is in mid-step forward with her upper torso leaning forward.  Not my favorite pose of the four, but not so bad ^^.

Miyuki’s maximum risky curves are all the more apparent when she takes off her gym uniform.

But, what’s this?  No shimapan!?  Miyuki decides to deny otakus’ their favorite pattern and instead goes for traditional, white undergarments.  Still, a white pantsu is fine too :D

Sadly, one downside to the cast-off-ability of these figures means they must have removable limbs in order for the clothes to be swapped.  This means that each figure has seams at various locations on their arms and legs.  The leg seams are pretty well hidden but as you can see in the above image, some of the arm seams are rather noticable.  Of course, this is only seen when their clothes are removed from the figures and that’s not exactly their natural state xD

Here is a more modest photo of the four Lucky Star girls.  Quite appealing, aren’t they? ^^.  I know some people don’t like the simplistic hair styling and facial features, but that’s an accurate representation of the anime look =P.  There were also some complaints about the characters’ poses, but I have to say, having them all together like this, I like them!  Kagami especially has grown on me.  I was the most skeptical of her winking pose but I can honestly say that I like it.  Put her next to Konata and it all makes sense xD

If you’re interested in these figures, they can still be found, though likely at an inflated cost.  Tsukasa was released back in October and Miyuki was released in late December.  Unfortunately, they are all sold out at Hobby Search, Amiami, HLJ, Otacute, etc.  They can still be found on ebay and Yahoo Japan Auctions but expect to pay extra.  Rakuten shows some of the figures at reasonable prices but I don’t have any experience dealing with them (anyone know?).

While I am very satisfied with this 1/4 scale set of figures by FREEing as they are, I’m delighted to say that I will be getting even more enjoying out of them in the future with some additional outfits! Pictures of the new outfits below:

And with that, I will conclude this post.  So while it was a bit costly to do so, I am glad I was able to complete this giant 1/4 scale set by FREEing.  For a dedicated Lucky Star fan, this may be the set may be the pinacle in Lucky Star figures (physically and metaphorically xD).  As for the extra outfits, stay tuned for that and thanks for visiting ;)

Lucky Star and FREEing strike back with the recent release of Hiiragi Kagami in 1/4 scale.  This is a follow-up to last month’s “Super” Konata, a figure of epic proportions (literally).  Luckily, “Super” Kagami does not disappoint ^^.

I’m glad to finally have the lovely Kagami in my hands and I have to say, she looks much better in person ^^.  There were many fans that were critical of the pose and look FREEing chose for this figure and I admit I was skeptical as well.  However, having had a chance to inspect her thoroughly, I can say that I don’t mind the pose at all.  In fact, I’ve grown rather fond of it ^^.

Poor Kagami has never been able to get into Konata, Tsukasa, and Miyuki’s class.  While they’re all having fun in 3-B, Kagami is stuck in 3-C with “Va!” girl Misao and some other misfits.  Of course, I still love Misao and the other 3-C girls ^^;

Kagami’s pose is quite fitting for her personality.  It really exemplifies her tsundere tendencies.  She is deep in thought but has the slightest blush visible as if she’s thinking something embarrassing but won’t admit it to Konata ^^;

I like the way she is standing with her feet pointing somewhat together and one foot slightly raised.  Gives an extra cute appeal to her pose :)

Like Konata before her, Kagami comes dressed in her school gym uniform which is real fabric and very well made.  And while I’m satisfied with the default clothes, I was quite pleased to learn that FREEing will be releasing additional clothing outfits for their 1/4 scale Lucky Star set.  Can’t wait for more info on them ^^

I think the wink is what discouraged many people about this figure.  While I’m not sure it was the best choice I can’t say it bothers me.  It does contribute to the deredere side of Kagami.

Kagami’s gym uniform is removable like Konata’s.  This is a required feature for the swappable clothes but I think it’s also a little bonus for the fanboys ^^;

Kagami is designed a bit different than Konata in how the clothes are swapped.  Due to Konata’s wide leg stance, both of her legs must be removable to slip the gym shorts off.  Kagami on the other hand, has a narrow stance which means neither of her legs need to be removable.  However, due to Kagami’s folded arms, both of are removable so the shirt can be taken off (only one of Konata’s arms is removable).

Also unlike Konata, Kagami does not quite resemble a board and has a little something to be proud of ^^;

What’s this, more shimapan? ^^;  Seems Kagami is also a fan of stripes.  I should also point out the color-coordination with hair color (same with Konata).  A trend to continue with the next two figures, perhaps?

Tried a single light source to add some shadows.  Didn’t turn out bad but I think I could do better with more focused, direct light.  Will have to play more with the idea.

A great figure overall.  I’m glad to see Super Kagami is indeed taller than Super Konata.  I was afraid they really wouldn’t be proper scale.  And the pose didn’t turn out as bad as I initially thought.  Quite nice actually :D  I am now quite convinced on obtaining the last two figures in the set, Tsukasa and Miyuki.

Unfortunately, Kagami is not in stock at Hobby Search and HLJ, my main two shops, but may still be found elsewhere.  It looks like both Konata and Kagami are going out of stock at a lot of stores so if you’re still thinking getting them, sooner would probably be better than later.  Tsukasa is due out later this month so it’s too late to pre-order but should be in stock for at least a few days.  Look forward to her review ^^.

So awesome!  It now makes perfect sense why they designed the figures to be (mostly safe) cast-offable ^^  Buy the figure once and you’ll have the ability to dress it in multiple sets of clothing :)  It seems the cheerleader outfit will be the first one released.  Now we just need some details on pricing and release dates.

Will probably be more interesting goodies shown at Chara Hobby later ^^

Haven’t been able to post recently due to work being extra busy the past week (yay broken servers) and having some family visit from out of town.  But it was worth the wait since I can now finally review the FREEing Konata I received a bit ago.  I present here “Super” Konata!

My reasoning for calling her Super Konata should be obvious given the massive 1/4 scale size.  Plus, she also kind of resembles a super hero with her hand of justice piercing the heavens xD

For the uninformed, this is FREEing’s 1/4 scale Izumi Konata from the Lucky Star series.  Those who occasionally read my ramblings here may know that I’m kind of a big fan of the series ^^;

I really do like Konata’s pose in this figure.  It’s so full of energy and really conveys Konata’s dynamic personality.  Despite her anime/game addicted lifestyle, Konata is quite athletic so I’m sure she is enjoying herself too :)

I’m experimenting with a new set up for my figure photos.  I used a new location for shooting which gives me more working room for lighting and I’m also trying a black background.  The background is actually a sheet of velvet fabric which I bought at a hobby store.  It absorbs light very well and while not pure black, with a little tweaking results in a nice deep, dark background.  The only problem is that near the base of the figure it’s more difficult to keep light off the background but I will work on that later ^^

Long hair is loooong >_<  How often do you see real-life girls with hair this long? ^^;

One of the coolest features of this figure is that Konata’s gym uniform clothes are made of real fabric!  Yep, the shirt is made of soft, flexible cotton and I believe the shorts are made of more reflective polyester (I think).

The gym shorts are well made with two stylish stripes down the side and a realistic elastic band at waist.

Konata’s shoes are, unfortunately, not made of fabric.  Since they are the base of the figure and support the full weight of the figure, it does make sense to use strong PVC.  The actual base stand is a star-shaped piece of plastic with a nice reflective mirror in the center.  While it is large due to the 1/4 scale of the figure, it’s not overly large which is a plus when limited display space is available.

The gym shorts look so nice with the fabric :D

Konata’s school gym uniform has her family name, Izumi (泉), printed on it along with her class (3-B).  I’m really glad they chose to use fabric for the clothes.  At 1/4 scale, I don’t think plastic or PVC clothes would have worked well at all.

View from below.  Was a rather difficult shot to take as Konata is so tall it was hard to get the background that high >_<

And… since everyone was asking themselves the same question: “Since the clothes are fabric, can they be removed?”.  The answer is, yes, they can be removed >_<  Konata’s head and left arm is removable which allows her shirt to be slipped off the top.

And… yes, the shorts are removable as well.  Both the left and right legs are removable as otherwise they would have blocked the shorts from sliding off.

Naturally, since Lucky Star is a clean, non-H series, Konata is wearing a sports bra type top (instead of nothing).  Either that or a training bra… with Konata, I’m not really sure xD

It seems Konata likes the classic shimapan style.  For the ladies out there, does anyone really wear pantsu like this? ^^;

FREEing certainly put enough detail into the panties that you would almost think they wanted people to strip poor Konata down to her underwear ;)

The fact that both legs and the left arm are removable for the sole purpose of removing Konata’s shorts and shirt definitively answers the question as to whether or not FREEing wanted owners to undress her ^^;

And, finally, Konata can get dressed again ^^.  She has two twins here: Comptiq Nendoroid Konata and Clayz 1/8 Konata.  These two alternate versions of Konata really help show the immense scale of FREEing’s 1/4 Konata.  In other words, she’s huge!

Although this figure was not cheap and the size is almost excessive, I still love it ^^.  FREEing has done an excellent job rendering cute Konata in her school gym uniform and the quality of both the molded figure and the cloth fabric clothes is excellent.  Being from anime source with relatively simple character designs, there isn’t much fine detail to Konata’s figure design but it fits quite well with the original character design.

Overall, an excellent figure to me.  Based on the quality of this figure, I believe I will be collecting the remaining 3 girls in FREEing’s 1/4 scale Lucky Star set though it won’t be a cheap collection >_<  I hope they turn out as good as Konata did.  If you want get a Super Konata for yourself, Hobby Search still her has in stock.  Now I just need to find a place large enough to display her…

A sneak peak at my latest acquisition which arrived today.  I knew right away what it was based on the size of the package ^^;  Konata is FREEing’s first figure in their 1/4 scale Lucky Star set and was released last week.

I know it’s 1/4 scale and is supposed to be big but I’m amazed by the size of this figure >_<  The above picture shows Konata against my monitor.  That’s a 26″ monitor and it really shows the sheer size of Konata ^^.  Also, the gym uniform is nice.  Real fabric!

Anyway, no time for a full review right now.  I will be posting more pics and a proper review sometime this week.  Look forward to it :)

Looks like I got back just in time ^^.  The last of the four Lucky Star girls in FREEing’s 1/4 scale set went up for pre-ordering yesterday.  This time it’s Miyuki Takara, the moe-clumsy meganeko. I like her pose here, it definitely captures her moe-centric personality :)

You can place your pre-order at Hobby Search for a mere 11,581 yen ^^;  The figure itself will be released sometime in October.  For those who like Lucky Star, FREEing’s 1/4 Konata from this set was released a few days ago.  You can order her right now for a slightly less, but still hefty 10,677 yen price tag.

Tsukasa Hiiragi, the airheaded twin sister of Kagami, is now up for pre-ordering.  This is the 3rd figure in the 1/4 scale Lucky Star set by FREEing.  Konata and Kagami ordering has already begun.  Konata was scheduled to be released this month but has been delayed until late July.

I personally like Tsukasa’s pose in this figure.  Kagami might have looked a bit odd, but Tsukasa is brimming with cuteness ^^.  A definite pick for me.  She will retail for 12,800 (ouch!).  Hobby Search has started reservations for her at 11,581 yen.  She will be begin shipping in September.  Miyuki will be the next figure in the FREEing’s 1/4 scale set :)
