Yep, I considered a Samsung monitor for a bit, the 245T to be specific but I wasn't able to find it in any stores and I read about too many problems with it. At first, I tried going to various electronic stores to get a look at the available monitors, but none of the local stores carry the higher quality monitors it seems.
As for calibrating my new monitor, I used a Eye One Display 2. It worked quite well and I made several color profiles and calibrated my older 24" Dell as well.

Nice LCD monitor you bought Anony! I hadn't heard of that brand yet.

I recently bought the Samsung 245B, it has a TN panel so the viewing angle is rather poor, has DVI connection but that's all I needed.
Considering the budget I had and the monitors I compared -I always try and go to stores that have them on display in use so I can see what the image looks like, next to reading reviews- it was the best choice. Other ones that were interesting cost more and were still TN panels so they didn't seem worth it just for a few extra connections I wouldn't use since this will only be used as a computer display.

Color calibration can be tricky, especially in Windows Vista, I'm not keen on how Vista handles colors by default. Windows XP and Linux seem to handle that much better in standard settings.
